OUR MISSION
The purpose of the Chemical Dependency Training Consortium of the Northwest is to provide low-cost, quality training for the staff, interns and volunteers of member agencies and other professional caregivers. All training provided is NAADAC approved and designed to meet Washington State Department of Health (DOH) training requirements.

NEW...LOWER REGISTRATION FEES!! Just $50 for members, $75 for non-members and $20 for students.

**PLEASE NOTE** Pre-registration and payment IN ADVANCE is required due to limited seating.

Payments should be post marked no later than seven days prior to training date.

Relationships in Recovery: A Tool Box for Counselors

Goal of Training
The goal of this training is to provide an in-depth understanding of how the addictive experience negatively impacts relationships and how a variety of skills and approaches can be taught to recovering addicts and their loved ones to help them heal their relationships and create greater peace and connection with their intimate partners.

Behavioral Objectives
At the end of the training each participant will have had an opportunity to acquire the following:

  • An understanding of the “Loss of Control” experience and how it creates trauma reactions/structures in family systems.
  • The neurochemistry of relationships and how it is negatively impacted by “Loss of Control” (and by commonly prescribed antidepressant medications).
  • An understanding of why relationships can be detrimental to recovery and how they are related to relapse.
  • How to help clients create structure that will nourish and help heal their relationships.
  • How to train clients how to respond to their own and others Post Traumatic Stress Response as it relates to their experience with addiction.
  • How to use meditation, yoga, exercise, music and art as a way to reduce trauma reactions and build compassionate connections.
  • How to apply the principles of Non-Violent Communication as a means of helping codependency in relationships to heal.

Trainer
Jon Gieber, MS, CADC II, Jon is the Department Chair at Portland Community College Alcohol and Drug Counseling Program. He owns a private practice and is a consultant and provider for Oregon Board of Medical Examiners Health Professional Program. Jon has spent twenty three years as a full time faculty member Portland community college and has twenty nine+ years as a recovering addict. Jon is Co-Creator of Couples Unite Relationship Enhancement Series, Co-Founder of People of the Heart A Non-Profit Educational Organization dedicated to Peace as well as the Author of UnVeiling the Addicted Heart.

Place: This training will be held at the Southwest Washington Medical Center-Memorial Campus 3400 Main St. Vancouver, WA 98663. Free parking is off 33rd and Washington Street. Enter through the Family Medicine Southwest doors (100 E. 33rd) and go up the elevator or stairs, follow hall to the left walking past the deli. Training room will be in next left corner conference room.
