OUR MISSION
The purpose of the Chemical Dependency Training Consortium of the Northwest is to provide low-cost, quality training for the staff, interns and volunteers of member agencies and other professional caregivers. All training provided is NAADAC approved and designed to meet Washington State Department of Health (DOH) training requirements.

NEW...LOWER REGISTRATION FEES!! Just $50 for members, $75 for non-members and $20 for students.

Goal of Training
Participation in this presentation will result in the following:
• Increased understanding of opiate/opioid agonist and opioid antagonist pharmacology
• Appreciation of the historical patterns of opiate use and how these patterns have contributed to the current increased abuse of opiates and opioids
• Familiarity with opiate/opioid neuropharmacology and the endorphin/enkephalin neurotransmitter systems
• Improved awareness of opiate/opiate induced allostasis and its effect on withdrawal and drug cravings
• Exposure to different treatment strategies for opiate/opioid dependence

Behavioral Objectives

  • Describe how opiate/opioid agonist differ from antagonist and name at least three examples of each
  • Discuss the historical development in routes of administration for abuse of opiate/opioid substances, how these practices have impacted their abuse potential, and cite the two most common routes of abuse in the U.S.
  • Identify at least three ways that opiate/opioids interact with the body’s endorphin/enkephalin to induce tolerance, tissue dependence or withdrawal
  • List at least four pharmacological effects and four side effects produced by opiate/opioid substances
  • Itemize at least 4 strategies used to treat opiate/opioid dependence.

Trainer
Eric Martin, MAC, CADC III, CPS, Eric Martin is the Past President & Director Emeritus of the Addiction Counselor Certification Board of Oregon. Eric is an Adjunct Faculty member with the University of Oregon and a contract instructor with Oregon's Child Welfare Division. Eric has 25 years of clinical experience in Inpatient Psychiatric Hospitalization, Residential and Outpatient Addictions Treatment and ATOD Prevention. Eric is an international presenter and treatment advocate. Eric has served on several Governor's advisory boards, the Governor's Council on Substance Abuse Programs and the Governor's Advisory Board on Drugs and Violent Crime. Eric has also produced a number of video's, including "Reunited" a video designed for methamphetamine addicted mothers entering the child welfare system. Eric has been honored with numerous awards in light of his 25 years of service in Addiction Treatment & Prevention. Most notably, he is the recipient of the Governor's Award of Excellence, presented by Oregon Governor John Kitzhaber.

Darryl Inaba, PharmD, CADC III, Darryl S. Inaba, PharmD., is recognized internationally as one of the foremost authorities on drugs and addiction. He was one of the original founders of the Haight Ashbury Free Clinics, Inc., in San Francisco and directed its Drug Detoxification, Rehabilitation and After Care Program until 1998. Dr. Inaba also served as their Chief Executive Officer and President. He currently serves as the Director of Education and Training for CNS Productions, Inc. During his career he has supervised the clinical treatment of over 120,000 substance abusers most of whom were self-referred into "recovery oriented", outpatient treatment. Dr. Inaba is noted for his work in developing innovative treatment and culturally relevant services especially in the Asian and African American communities. Dr. Inaba was appointed the first Haight Asbury Free Clinic Fellow in 2006. He is an Associate Clinical Professor at the University of California San Francisco Medical Center. He is also a Special Consultant and Instructor at the University of Utah School on Alcoholism and Other Drug Dependencies and an Adjunct Professor at College of San Mateo Department of Alcohol and Other Drug Studies. Dr. Inaba is the author of Uppers, Downers, All Arounders, a text/reference used at over 400 colleges nationwide, and he has produced several published articles and a series of award winning educational films on various aspects of addiction science.
